Journey Through the Bhutan Ridra Tours - Experience Bhutan Like Never Before

Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)

The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a daily charge levied on visitors to Bhutan to support the country’s development and sustainability efforts. Since Bhutan began welcoming guests in 1974, tourism has significantly contributed to the nation’s growth.

The funds collected from the SDF are managed by the national treasury and are used to finance various initiatives that benefit the Bhutanese people. These include free healthcare, education and training programs, improvements in tourism and hospitality infrastructure, environmental conservation efforts, cultural preservation projects, and support for local businesses and economies. The SDF also plays a crucial role in maintaining Bhutan’s renowned forest cover and carbon-neutral status, which are essential to preserving the tranquil and unique experience that Bhutan offers its visitors.

SDF Rates

◦ For Adults: The SDF is USD 100 per night for visitors from all countries, excluding India.
◦ For Children:
▪ Children aged 6 to 12 years are required to pay USD 50 per night.
▪ Children under 6 years of age are exempt from the SDF.

Exemptions and Concessions

Certain exemptions and reduced rates may apply to the SDF:

◦ Day Tourists: Those who only visit the first designated point and do not travel further are exempt from the SDF.
◦ Children: Children aged 5 years and younger are exempt, and a 50% concession applies to children aged 6 to 12 years.
◦ Other Possible Exemptions: Additional exemptions or reduced rates may be applied as deemed appropriate by the Competent Authority.

Tour Costs

The SDF is separate from other tour-related expenses. Visitors will need to cover additional logistical charges separately, which may include costs for accommodation, flights, transportation, guides, entrance fees, meals, and other services based on their chosen itinerary and requirements.
